In Day 30 of Rick Warren’s Devotional entitled, “What On Earth Am I Here For?”, he writes that an unopened gift is worthless. I’m sure we all would agree, that whether you are giving a gift or receiving one this Christmas, it’s of no value to anyone, if it stays wrapped up. When thinking about your purpose, a gift is something you can do effortlessly and you lose all track of time while you are doing what you love to do. For some, that is writing. For others, it is the gift of gab. It can be anything: singing, dancing, nursing, caring for others, calculating, selling, building, coaching…. the possibilities are endless. The point is discovering what your gift is and enjoying it, every day, in your work and in your free time. Rick Warren writes, “We have all heard people say, ‘I need a job I hate in order to make a lot of money, so someday, I can quit and do what I love to do.’ That’s a big mistake. Don’t waste your life in a job that doesn’t express your heart.” So, unwrap your gifts and enjoy them this year!
