“I am so happy that I did it!”~Jennifer

Jennifer contacted Opportunity Knox Network in April of 2019. She stated that she had recently resigned from “the worst job ever” and moved back home at 29 years of age.

She felt confused. She had gotten a job at a school, teaching music which is what she had always wanted to do. She loved connecting with her students and watching them develop a love for music. Jennifer felt frustrated and disappointed that something about that job just wasn’t working. She contacted Opportunity Knox Network requesting to take the Career Direct Assessment, so that she could discern where to go to here.

“I was very confused about where God was leading me. I kept seeing these new job opportunities come up but, it seemed God wanted me to just stay where I was in a job where I couldn’t grow in my career.”

Through the consultation meetings, Jennifer, along with the support of her mom, explored the assessment summary results with an open mind. The results were clear. She had a very strong aptitude for teaching music. After finishing the consultation, “I was a lot more confident about the direction God was leading me in and it helped me to take a huge step of faith in opening a piano studio.” said Jennifer.

Her words of advice to others who are interested in a career in music, ” There is so much in the field of Music Education other than just teaching in an elementary or high school. I never would have realized how much I enjoyed teaching piano if I didn’t step out of the classroom for a short time. Don’t just settle with a job because it just seems that’s the only option.”

Jennifer is currently teaching piano to 25 students in a piano studio that she opened on August 13, 2019. When asked if the Career Direct Assessment and consultation process was helpful to her in her decision-making, Jennifer answered, “Absolutely! I am so happy that I did it!”
